Le refuge de l'oncle Emile is above all a family story. This house has been restored with desire, passion, taste and love. It was the refuge of Emile, who loved and loved Dormillouse. That's why we decided to call it that. Nestled at an altitude of 1800m in the hamlet of Dormillouse, the most isolated hamlet in France, come and experience a unique adventure in this place steeped in history, in the heart of the Ecrins, in a preserved mountain range where we live all year round.

This intimate, discreet and cosy refuge is located in this little corner of paradise, where the only access is on foot in both summer and winter.

Our rooms are a promise of authenticity and a mountain journey, in a timeless place with a unique setting. Uncle Emile's refuge has been refurbished using the finest materials and in a constant spirit of eco-responsibility.

Our rooms are fully adaptable from 2 to 8 people and can accommodate families, friends, itinerants and seminars.

Access

The Refuge de l'oncle Emile is located in the village of Dormillouse, in the heart of the Ecrins National Park.

How to get there

In summer: Follow the Fréissinières valley to the waterfalls car park and follow the path! At the end of the forest, you can see the village! The refuge is located in the central part of the village 20 metres before you reach the temple. The hike lasts an average of 45 minutes. The time varies for each person.

In winter: Follow the Freissinières valley to the winter car park 200m after the last village of Les Mensals or 1200m after this last village. Depending on the latest weather conditions, the second car park may be open! Equipment is compulsory and highly recommended! The walk at the bottom of the valley lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour and then, at the bottom of the valley, take the winter path that will take you to the foot of the village in the first hamlet! You'll have to keep climbing for a few more minutes before you reach our refuge!

Don't forget that you're expected, so take your time and enjoy the peace and beauty of the area as you climb!

Summer

The big big big big big mountains offer dozens of activities in summer. Many hikes are directly accessible from the refuge. Activities are also available nearby: via Ferrata, accrobranche, rafting, canyoning...

Winter

In winter, enjoy the mountains and the snow: snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, as well as nearby waterfalls...

Nous avons découvert le gîte lors d'une simple balade où nous nous sommes arrêté pour des rafraîchissements. Vue grandiose depuis la terrasse, accueil chaleureux de Stéphanie et de son gros et brave chien, maison superbement rénovée, nous avons été surpris et enchantés de notre visite.

Nous sommes montées entre copines et nous nous sommes régalées. Mr et Mme sont forts sympathiques, très accueillants, et on fait de la maison du grand oncle un petit coin de paradis. Tout y est beau, pratique, moderne et rustique en même temps. Une vraie réussite. Je recommande vivement et j'y retournerai. Le terme "le refuge autrement" ne pouvait pas être mieux choisi.

Refuge d exception : l accueil, le repas et la rénovation sont à la hauteur de la vue !! Nous étions un groupe de 7, belle rando raquettes et farniente autour du feu avec de délicieuses bugnes. Le village de dourmillouse est charmant, typique et facilement accessible. Merci pour cette escapade très dépaysante !

Très bon moment passés en famille cet hiver dans cette superbe bâtisse rénovée avec goûts et récemment ouverte. Vue incroyable et calme absolu, parfait pour se ressourcer. Chambres et literies de qualité. Nous y avons également très bien mangé et l’accueil a été parfait.Petite pépite à découvrir.

Une adresse unique!J’ai séjourné au Refuge de l’oncle Emile, en famille, l’été dernier et cet hiver, deux saisons différentes. Toujours enchantée. Situé au coeur du parc naturel des ecrins, le refuge est accessible à pied uniquement. Le logement est dans une vielle batisse entièrement rénovée, avec des chambres individuelles tout comfort. Les hotes sont tres acceuillants.Et le bonheur de profiter de la montagne. Nous avons fait des randonnées cet été (lac paluel… mais aussi la traversée du parc des ecrins pour rejoindre chateauroux-les-alpes).Cet hiver, nous avons fait de la randonnée en raquettes et profité de la neige, raclette….Une adresse à recommander!L’endroit me parait parfait pour un team building avec le boulot, pour se recentrer sur l’équipe. A suivre…

Very pleasant evening in the company of Claude by the fireplace. Quiet night in comfortable bedding. Hearty raclette in the evening and full picnic the next day. A view like this has to be earned! And what a reward it is to arrive at your destination: it's paradise. The setting is sensational, the welcome is warm, and time stands still. Magnificent snowshoe/raclette hike. After a 2-hour climb from the winter car park, we were warmly welcomed by Claude and Stéphanie. The meal was excellent and the adaptations for lactose-free diets very much appreciated. We enjoyed everything: the scenery, the cosy refuge, the friendliness, an outing that combines sport and comfort, perfect for a clientele that isn't very sporty... To be repeated in spring, summer and with autumn colours!

The perfect place to share a warm moment with friends, family or even solo! Inspiring, rejuvenating and soothing, you won't want to come back down. Stéphanie and Claude, the owners, have renovated this little nest with great taste. What's more, they gave us a very warm welcome, and the snacks, dinner and breakfast were divine.
