Nestling in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes, the small village of Dormillouse is an invitation to a change of scenery and adventure for hikers in search of tranquillity and breathtaking scenery. Perched at an altitude of more than 1,650 metres, this hamlet, accessible only on foot, is the ideal starting point for exploring the hidden treasures of the Ecrins National Park. This article guides you along the hiking trails that wind around this rare gem of the French Alps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. The Dormillouse discovery trail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first stop for any visitor should be the walk to the village itself. The trail starts at the Freissini\u00e8res car park, and a walk of around an hour through woodland and meadows leads to Dormillouse. The route is relatively easy and suitable for all abilities. Along the way, hikers can admire the alpine flora and fauna, as well as the spectacular waterfalls in the area. Once you arrive, the village offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and snow-capped peaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Lake Faravel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For those looking to extend their adventure, Lac de Faravel is a must-see destination. From Dormillouse, the trail climbs gently through alpine meadows and scree, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. After walking for around 2 hours, hikers are rewarded with a view of the deep blue lake, nestling in a green setting. It's the perfect place to have a picnic and recharge your batteries before heading back down or on to other adventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. The Lac Palluel and Lac Faravel loop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For more experienced walkers, the loop combining Lac Palluel and Lac Faravel is a full-day hike. Leaving Dormillouse, the route to Lac Palluel takes in steeper terrain, requiring a good level of fitness. The view of Lac Palluel, with its clear waters surrounded by high cliffs, is simply magnificent. Continuing on to Lac Faravel, the hike offers varied and spectacular panoramas. This loop, which takes around 5 to 6 hours to complete, is a veritable hymn to the beauty of the Hautes-Alpes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Le col de Freissini\u00e8res ou col d’Orci\u00e8re<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Un parcours vari\u00e9 entre for\u00eats, alpages, moraines et falaises z\u00e9br\u00e9es de cascades pour rejoindre le col de Freissini\u00e8res aussi appel\u00e9 col d’Orci\u00e8res, \u00e0 2782 m. comptez 8h de marche pour un aller retour et environ 1000ml de denivel\u00e9 positif et donc 1000 ml de denivel\u00e9 negatif avec un d\u00e9part \u00e0 partir de Dormillouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Le col des Terres Blanches \u00e0 partir de Dormillouse pour se rendre \u00e0 Prapic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Le col des Terres Blanches depuis Dormillouse est un circuit de randonn\u00e9e qui offre une exp\u00e9rience nordique et sauvage. Ce parcours d’environ 17 kilom\u00e8tres repr\u00e9sente en moyenne 7h30 de marche. Il vous faudra partir de Dormillouse en direction du lac Fangeas en suivant le sentier balis\u00e9 jaune Le sentier du col des Terres Blanches est balis\u00e9 par des cairns et des points blancs, et il est important de suivre les cairns pour traverser les hautes herbes et les barres rocheuses. Le retour se fait par le m\u00eame chemin ou par Prapic puis col de Freissini\u00e8res en 2 jours. Une distance de 19km pour arriver \u00e0 Prapic, un d\u00e9nivel\u00e9 positif de 1000 m environ \u00e0 partir de Dormillouse et comptez environ 8 \u00e0 9h de marche<\/p>\n\n\n\n
